The Academic Historical Museum is located in the Academy Building.
Visits
The permanent display of the Academic Historical Museum runs throughout the Academy Building, with showcases, sculptures and portraits of Leiden professors evoking the rich history of Leiden University and its student life.
Guests and visitors of inaugural lectures and PhD defences will have the opportunity to visit the collection on display.
Collection
The Academic Historical Museum manages an extensive collection which is inseparably linked with the Academy Building and the history of Leiden University. The collection is highly diverse and includes photographs, maps, degree certificates, books, periodicals, archives, banners, gowns, showpieces, paintings, prints, sculptures and medals.
A large part of the collection can be consulted on site by appointment. Several parts of the collection have been or will be transferred to the University Library. These items can be found via the Leiden University Libraries' catalogue. Material housed in the library can be consulted in the Reading Room Special Collections upon request.
